In just one county [of Texas], the bodies and remains of more than 500 migrants have been found since 2009.  NYTimes More than 6,000 migrants have been rescued attempting to cross the Mediterranean to Europe in the past two days, European Union and Italian naval officials say.  The Italian coastguard said about 3,000 people were picked up on May 6, about the same number of migrants rescued the day before.  Radio Free Europe The bodies and remains of more than 550 undocumented migrants have been discovered in Brooks County since January 2009. Those bodies were only those reported to the authorities. “I would say for every one we find, we’re probably missing five,” said Sheriff Urbino Martinez, adding that the scale of the problem often gets overlooked “because it doesn’t happen all in one bulk.
